In his first season with the Baltimore Ravens, running back Mark Ingram was a Pro Bowler. In his second, the former Alabama All-American became an afterthought. And as for his third, Ingram doesn’t seem to think there will be one.
On Monday night, Ingram posted a thank you note to the Ravens, their fans and teammates on his Instagram page and wrote: “I look forward to my next opportunity because the best is yet to come.”
Baltimore’s season ended Saturday night with a 17-3 loss to the Buffalo Bills in an AFC playoff second round game.
Ingram was designated as an inactive match day, as it had been in three of the previous four contests.
Ravens running back Gus Edwards enjoyed much the same kind of season in 2020 as in 2019, when Ingram ran 1,018 yards and 10 touchdowns on 202 carries and caught five TD passes as a runner. Baltimore balloon. Edwards tallied 723 yards and six touchdowns on 144 carries in 2020 after getting 711 yards and two touchdowns on 133 rushing attempts in 2019.
But the Ravens added Ohio state runner JK Dobbins in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and he ran 805 yards and nine touchdowns on 134 carries as a rookie. The combination of Dobbins production with Ingram’s 2020 stats of 299 yards and two touchdowns on 72 carries closely mirrors Ingram’s running numbers in 2019.
Ingram had started Baltimore’s first six games of the 2020 season when an ankle injury suffered in a 30-28 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Oct. 18 sidelined him for two weeks.
After his comeback, Ingram ran 7 yards on seven carries while playing 23 snaps in two games before being sidelined again – this time during the Ravens’ coronavirus outbreak. He spent November 23 through December 5 in the reserve / COVID-19 and missed a game.
Ingram returned to the field as a Baltimore starting backer and ran 28 yards on six carries in a 34-17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 8. He started the following week as well, but the first shot of the game was the only one Ingram played in the Ravens’ 47-42 win over the Cleveland Browns on December 14.
After that, Ingram played in one of Baltimore’s five remaining games, totaling 39 yards on nine carries in a 38-3 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Jan. 3 in the regular season finale.
Ingram became Alabama’s first Heisman Trophy winner in 2009, when the undefeated Crimson Tide won the BCS National Championship.
Ingram entered the NFL as a first-round selection in the 2011 NFL Draft. He spent his first eight seasons with the New Orleans Saints before signing a three-year, $ 15 million contract with Baltimore as as a free agent in 2019. The final season of the contract calls for Ingram to receive a base salary of $ 5 million for 2021. season.
In 132 regular season NFL games, Ingram totaled 7,324 yards and 62 touchdowns on 1,595 rushing attempts and 260 receptions for 1,895 yards and 10 touchdowns. He made seven playoff games with 299 yards and a TD on 71 rushing attempts and 10 receptions for 57 yards.
Ingram received Pro Bowl invitations in 2014, 2017 and 2019.
