Markie Post, the veteran television actress who has appeared in sitcoms like Night court and Scrubs, died at the age of 70.
Post Director Ellen Lubin Sanitsky confirmed her death to Hollywood journalist, adding that the actress has died from a battle with cancer.
Post was best known for her long run on Night court, joining the full-time cast as lawyer Christine Sullivan ahead of the series’ third season; Post appeared in nearly 160 episodes of the series, which ran from 1984 to 1990.
Post’s Night Court co-star Gilbert Gottfried, who appeared in the show’s ninth season, tweeted a tribute to the actress:

Prior to his on-camera career, Post worked in the game show production team as Doubly dare and Sharks Card. She then became an actress in 1979, as a guest on shows like The boat of love, Team A, Barnabas Jones and Greatest American Hero. In 1982, she was cast for her first regular role in the Lee Majors series with The right guy.
Post’s family said in a statement following the news of her death: “But for us, our pride is in knowing who she was besides acting; a person who made elaborate cakes for friends, sewed curtains for the first apartments and showed us how to be kind, loving and forgiving in an often harsh world.
While still acting, Post has remained active in the game show world, frequently appearing on The $ 10,000 pyramid and Hollywood squares. In 1998, Post landed his first major role on the big screen, playing the mother of Cameron Diaz’s character in There is something about Marie. A recurring role on Scrubs – playing the mother of Sarah Chalke’s character, Elliot Reid – followed in 2002. Most recently, Post had recurring roles on Chicago PD and the short-lived ABC comedy The children are doing well.
In 2008, Post appeared on a 30 Rock episode that brought back the cast of Night court, with Post joining former co-stars Harry Anderson and Charlie Robinson for the reunion in the show. Since that episode, all three actors have died: Anderson in April 2018 and Robinson last month.
