Adam Levine, lead singer of Maroon 5, is sad that there are no more bands. In a new interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music to discuss Maroon 5’s new song, “Beautiful Mistakes,” starring Megan Thee Stallion, Levine laments the lack of groups in the current pop landscape and is nostalgic for the crazy days of groups, like Avril Lavigne:

You look at this stuff back and it’s funny I showed my kids music videos, my little girl. And it’s funny how you go back and watch those old videos, and listen to those old songs, and I played him a lot of Avril Lavigne records. Like, man, “I’m With You,” it’s like – it’s, yeah, it makes you cry. It’s crazy, because you don’t remember it the same way, because you took it for granted, because it was like when you were growing up, and it was just part of what you had to radio. But there are some really good songs that I didn’t understand how good they were back then.

It’s funny, when the first Maroon 5 album came out, there were still other bands. I have the impression that there are no more groups, you know? That’s what makes me a little sad, is that there were only groups. There are no more bands and I have the impression that they are dying.
