Marriott today issued a statement regarding the health of Arne Sorenson, President and Chief Executive Officer of the company. On Wednesday, Sorenson, 60, was diagnosed with stage 2 pancreatic cancer.
According to Marriott's statement:
Sorenson, 60, was diagnosed by a medical team at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore after a series of tests. Sorenson will remain in his duties during treatment.
In a message to Marriott International's associates, Sorenson said, "The cancer was discovered early. It does not seem to have spread and the medical team – and I – are convinced that we can realistically aim for a comprehensive treatment. In the meantime, I intend to continue working in the company that I love. Let me make a request, look ahead with me. We have a great job going on at Marriott. I am as excited about what we can accomplish together as ever before. "
Sorenson's treatment plan will begin next week with chemotherapy. His doctors are planning surgery by the end of 2019.
This is the hope of a complete and rapid treatment and the recovery of Sorenson. Good health eclipses everything, and such situations put into perspective what really matters.
