"I am very grateful," said Martin at ESSENCE. "I'm so grateful to be right here and to be honored with this group of people and to be with my peers, it's just amazing."

Martin goes into history as the youngest executive producer in Hollywood history with his next film Little, which stars Issa Rae and Black Women in Hollywood, Regina Hall.

In January, she told ESSENCE that she hoped the film would inspire other teens to dream big.

"Many people will say different things like," You can not do it. "They will say no even before I say anything. You just have to believe in yourself and there is a reason why they might say no because they probably have not seen it before."

She added, "You do not really see a 14-year-old girl creating her own work and making it a play. That's why you need to start working with people who will trust you and believe that you can do it and trust you … you take on such great responsibility. "
