As the Seattle Kraken select their first roster in Wednesday’s expansion draft, some of the city’s most famous athletes will announce their names.
Scheduled to reveal the players selected by the Kraken in the expansion draft (8 p.m. ET Wednesday, ESPN2) are Seattle Storm goalie Sue Bird, Seattle Sounders FC forward Jordan Morris, Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner and former running back Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Mariners outfielder Kyle Lewis, and former Seattle SuperSonics stars Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp as well as Hall of Fame coach Lenny Wilkens.
“They all love the Kraken so much. It was the easiest thing to book. The Kraken are buzzing about right now, ”said Steve Mayer, NHL Content Director and Draft Executive Producer.
Most of the celebrities will appear at Gas Works Park in Seattle, where a crowd of Kraken fans will congregate. This gathering will include fans on boats decorated in honor of the new NHL team, as the site is located directly on the Sound. There will also be a barge where much of the broadcast will take place, in full view of fans in the room and those in their ships.
Kraken owner and Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer, rapper Macklemore, female hockey legend and Kraken scout Cammi Granato, Kraken intersectional consultant Chanel Keenan and members of Western Washington Female Hockey and the Anchorage Hockey Academy are expected to also be present. Virginia Mason Franciscan Health frontline workers will also help announce the team.

Most importantly, the expansion draft will be a way for the new NHL team to quickly ground itself in its city, as places like the Seattle Aquarium, Mount Rainier, and the Space Needle will be used as locations during the season. diffusion.
This includes another familiar Seattle setting: Pike Place Market, where Mayer said they would incorporate one of the city’s most famous traditions into the project.
“We’re going to throw a fish and reveal a pickaxe,” he said.
