Rapper Martell Derouen, who performed under the name Kardone, has died from a gunshot wound. He was 34 years old.

San Antonio police found Derouen’s body inside his apartment in central Texas on Tuesday as he was conducting a welfare check, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

The request for a police check on Derouen, who has been widely reported as superstar Beyoncé’s “cousin” in local media, was made by an anonymous person who had not heard from the musician for several days.

Beyoncé’s representatives did not immediately return the Post’s request for confirmation of her possible connection to Derouen.

Officials have issued an arrest warrant for Sasha Skare, 21, who has been confirmed as a murder suspect, according to local television station KSAT.

Skare was also involved in the San Antonio music scene and released a single produced by Kardone in April. She had previously been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after a shooting in 2019 that left one man dead and another injured, court records show.

“There is no way to replace him, but help us find this girl,” Derouen’s wife Joia wrote in a statement. “She is dangerous and I believe she will kill again. If you see her, please contact the police. “

Of her late husband, the “shaken” Joia added, “He didn’t deserve this” and asked for confidentiality as she tried “to digest this senseless act”.

Fans of the emerging host took to an Instagram account purportedly managed by Skare, begging her to surrender to authorities.

Derouen, who was signed to Sony Music The Orchard label in 2019, is remembered by friend Brian Mitchell as “a real subtle dude,” KSAT reported.

Mitchell praised the musician for refusing to name his alleged world-famous singer parent “Run the World” for his own professional benefit.

“It’s not even something he would mention to people,” said Mitchell, owner of Fyngermade Studio. “We should just put [that information] in his bios because it’s fair, it’s worth putting it in there, but he doesn’t like stuff like that.

As investigators continue to search for Derouen’s alleged murderer, Mitchell continues to wonder why anyone would harm his friend.

“It’s like hurting a butterfly,” he says.

The San Antonio Police Department is asking anyone with information on Skare’s whereabouts to contact the Homicide Unit at 210-207-7635.
