The Astros didn’t let Jose Altuve’s Aaron Judge troll go unanswered.
Wide receiver Martin Maldonado hit a solo home run against Jameson Taillon in the third inning on Sunday and after rounding up third place, lowered his collar as if to show he wasn’t wearing a buzzer – as many suspected of Altuve could have been so when he hit a promenade. Home run against the Yankees in Game 6 of the 2019 ALCS.
On Saturday, the judge paid tribute to Altuve’s memorable home run when he pulled on his jersey before touching third place – mocking Altuve by telling his teammates not to tear his jersey off after the winner playoffs. While Altuve was suspected of carrying a buzzer to alert it to upcoming locations, following the 2017 Astros’ sign-stealing program, an MLB investigation found no evidence of the buzzer.
The judge played shyly on Saturday night when asked about the jersey pulling.
“Anytime they keep the roof closed here it’s pretty cold,” Judge said with a straight face of Minute Maid Park. “So it’s just a matter of letting my team know to button up a bit. “
Astros manager Dusty Baker was not a fan of Judge’s celebration.
“I noticed what he did,” Baker told reporters Sunday morning. “It was wrong. He’s my mate. But it was wrong. Hey man, people can do whatever they want. He’s one of the biggest, meanest guys in the world.
The Yankees played that role again on Sunday. After Tim Locastro hit a solo homerun in the fourth inning, Rougned Odor greeted him at the shelter with a jacket. The temperature at the first step inside the dome was 73 degrees.
