"We knew we wanted to create an original Avengers game with an original story, we wanted to get back to the roots of comics, we were inspired by comics, we wanted to make sure our characters lived in our story. and so has represented our history. According to Escayg, the idea that Crystal Dynamics could use the similarities or voices of the Marvel Cinematic Universe distribution has never been entertained, not even at the beginning of development.

"We wanted to clearly show that it was our turn on the Avengers," he said.

Last year, Insomniac Games released Spider-Man, a game that does pretty much the same thing. The difference is that, as an audience, we are used to Peter Parker being played by different actors (Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, Tom Holland). There is an audience that has literally grown up with Chris Evans as Captain America. It's a different ball game.

Escayg admits that it's "difficult".

Perhaps the biggest challenge: Marvel's Avengers clearly borrows the theatrical language of Marvel's film universe. In a gameplay demo we saw, Hulk slapped his enemies like in the Avengers movies. Same for Captain America and Iron Man. According to the developers, the game does not copy movies. This is because they are from the same source.

"I think the films probably took a similar approach," said Vince Napoli, the chief combat designer. "They did not reinvent these characters, do not they?" They shoot the same things as us. Escayg said he was aware of the "burden" of creating an Avengers game of this magnitude, but he thinks he has a story that deserves to be told.
