While the PlayStation 5 officially only ships in standard white with a black centerpiece, that hasn’t stopped people tweaking their new, next-gen consoles after the fact. While there have been many attempts to provide third-party faceplates with varying degrees of legality, the most common customizations seem to simply change the white faceplates of the base model. For example, one Marvel fan went so far as to create a cute, personalized model with Iron Man’s repulsor on the side.
Specifically, Reddit user DGR8EST-1987 recently shared his work on the platform, posting photos of progress from just painting the thing to adding the repulsor itself. Generally speaking, it looks like the faceplates were removed, painted red, and then a commercial Iron Man repeller nightlight was added to the side with a few more details added to make it look like it bursts from the side of the thing. For what it’s worth, modifying the front panels of the PlayStation 5 seems relatively straightforward, but be aware that tampering with this stuff usually invalidates the warranty. Additionally, there is always the possibility that you will break something irreversibly in the process. The PlayStation 5 itself is now available with the version containing a disc player running $ 499 while the all-digital console costs $ 399 – if you can find either one in stock.
