Marvel’s latest animated short Avengers: War for Wakanda unites draws unique parallels between T’Challa and villainous Ulysses Klaw.

The latest animated trailer for Marvel Avengers upcoming extension War for Wakanda features villainous Ulysses Klaw sporting a design inspired by both the comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The trailer, titled Road to Wakanda: fathers and sons, explains the villain of the expansion, explaining why Klaw is so determined to conquer Wakanda. The trailer draws parallels between Klaw and T’Challa, the current Black Panther and the King of Wakanda. Both men are influential leaders devoid of proper guidance, driven to achieve their goals by whatever means necessary.

The iteration of Klaw seen in Marvel Avengers seems to act as a fusion of the version seen in the MCU and the original comics. While the character design resembles Andy Serkis’ human look, the final shot in the trailer reveals Klaw as a gigantic red entity with a sonic emitter strapped to his left hand.

As for Klaw’s origin, the character’s hatred for Wakanda is fueled by his father’s failure to conquer the small African nation. Thwarted by Captain America and King T’Chaka, the former Black Panther cloak wearer, Ulysses Klaw is determined to finish what his father started. “With an army of allies and cutting edge technology, Ulysses Klaw is different. He’s a fatherless son,” the trailer states.

War for Wakanda is the first major expansion of Marvel Avengers. The update adds a ton of new content, including Wakanda as the new location and Black Panther as the last playable character. Players can also look forward to new Drop Zone and Threat Sector missions, the Birnin Zana Outpost, and plenty of new cosmetics.

Players who want to know more about War for Wakanda should connect to the next War Table event from developer Crystal Dynamic. Scheduled for August 16, the live stream will reveal everything that’s included in the expansion, providing a deep dive into all the new additions.

Black Panther isn’t the first superhero to join Marvel Avengers since the game launched in 2020. Previous updates have seen the addition of two different Hawkeyes: Kate Bishop and Clint Barton. While both characters have been well received by fans, the game as a whole is considered a difficult experience. Many have complained about Marvel’s Avengers poorly implemented real service elements and repetitive fighting.

If you can’t wait to step into Black Panther’s boots, then you’re in luck. War for Wakanda launches as a free update for Marvel Avengers August 17. The game is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC.
