Marvel’s main Spider-Verse team officially has a new name

Spider-Man might think his battle with Kindred is over, but his allies know that better and they’ve officially given themselves a new team name.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man # 57 by Nick Spencer, Mark Bagley, John Dell, Andrew Hennesy, Andy Owens, Rachelle Rosenberg, Edgar Delgado & VC’s Joe Caramagna, on sale now.

Earlier in the “Last Remains” scenario in Amazing Spider-Man, the heroes that are part of the spider totem found a name on the spot, calling themselves the Order of the Web. Now that the battle with Kindred is temporarily over, they know they have bigger battles to fight.

As a result, the heroes have chosen to stay connected to each other and have formed an official team where they will try to keep tabs on Spider-Man and resolve the issues this war with Kindred has raised. However, along with the official team, they also shortened their name. Spider-Gwen said the original name Ms. Web gave them was a bit long, so she said they would now be known as The Order.

The new team includes Spider-Man, Spider-Woman, Madame Web, Silk, Spider-Gwen, and Miles Morales’ Spider-Girl. They weren’t happy with Peter Parker when he came out after the battle with Kindred and refused to explain what had happened. They almost died trying to help her, and they all went through a lot. She also pointed out that Peter had made a choice that he felt was for them, but she felt he was hiding something. Mary Jane rose to stop the debate, and Ms. Web agreed, but told Peter the time to speak would come.

After Peter and Mary Jane left, the Order began to discuss their upcoming move. While Spider-Man was busy dealing with Norman Osborn and wiping his hands through the whole situation, the Order said he still needed their help, even though he didn’t want to let them help. Spider-Woman said it didn’t matter as she knew something big was coming and they wouldn’t give Spider-Man a choice when the time came. She admitted that Kindred isn’t over, that all the sins Sin-Eater has released are turning wild, and something big is happening. Spider-Gwen said they needed someone to tell them what to do, and that’s when Ms. Web said they would stay together. This excited Spider-Man, who wanted to write statutes and rent office space, despite knowing what it means to be a member of a team. He was in the Avengers and is currently a member of the Champions. They decided it could wait. For now, they’re known as The Order, and it was about time they got down to business.

While Order of the Web was a bit long and a mouthful for Spider-Gwen, the new name doesn’t have the best connotations either. During “Civil War”, Tony Stark launched the Initiative to place superhero teams across the United States, all working for the United States government. The California team was initially, and ironically, called the Champions, but was later renamed the Order. It was an interesting group, as each member had the power of a Greek God, but as a team led by the government, if one of the members broke the rules, they found themselves stripped of their powers and someone. another would replace them. The team ended up phasing out after the Initiative, and soon the real champions were back in action.

Another team known as The Order consisted of the founding members of the Defenders – Doctor Strange, Namor, Hulk, and Silver Surfer. This took place in Order (2002) by Kurt Busiek, Matt Haley, Dan Panosian, Gregory Wright and Randy Gentile. This put some of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in a position where they have imposed their will on the inhabitants of Earth with some sort of New World Order, under a curse placed upon them by Yandroth. However, it ended when the rest of the defenders stopped them and broke the curse, ending the threat once and for all.
