- The drone Monica sends to Westview features the colors of Captain Marvel, because of course. She introduced the hero to the color scheme to start!
- Is it possible that Monica passed through Wanda’s energy field due to her latent powers? Monica’s powers in the comics allow her to transform into energy, and there is a lot of weird energy stuff in this week’s episode.
- Monica wakes up from the “blip” in room 104 of the hospital. Room 104 doesn’t matter in Captain Marvel’s story, but Avengers # 104 is a potentially interesting connection. In this issue, the Avengers and the X-Men team up to fight the Sentinels mutant hunters, who have attached Wanda to a machine that will cause a solar flare that … will sterilize humans allowing the Sentinels to reproduce the genetic variation that causes the mutation. Weird.
MARIA RAMBEAU
- Maria Rambeau from Captain Marvel is confirmed to have died of cancer in between Infinity war and End of Game. Apparently she worked for SWORD at a high level, possibly even founding the organization, probably inspired by the madness she witnessed in the 90s, as shown Captain Marvel.
- Throughout her time in SWORD, Maria kept the callsign “Photon,” one of the many code names Monica would use as a superhero in the comics.
SWORD
- Monica arriving at SWORD HQ is a bittersweet juxtaposition with reports of “the celebrations continue” as people reunite with loved ones, as Maria never got to see her daughter return.
- SWORD director Tyler Hayward appears to be a brand new MCU creation, but he shares a last name with a “Brian Hayward” who was a villain on Marvel’s. Agents of SHIELD.
- Anyone else thinks the SWORD blue, black, and white color scheme might tease a Fantastic Four connection? Especially since Hayward and Monica are having a conversation about an “astronaut training program” that apparently isn’t going very well.
- The number on Monica’s van is S-8512. No, we couldn’t find any meaning in that either. It has special government / SWORD plates which indicate ZB718. Draw a blank there too.
- Agent SWORD’s name with Darcy when she first finds out about the show is Agent Monti. It doesn’t ring Marvel bells with us either.
Westview
- As we suspected, Westview is indeed in northern New Jersey, possibly in Bergen County. If we have this right, the “Route 2” Monica leads to Westview (exit 32) no longer exists, and now perhaps what is called Route 17, which crosses both the NJ and New York.
- Westview has a population of 3,892. Anyone got something on this number? March 8, 1992? Aug 3, 1992?
THAT YOU, MEPHISTO?
The Eastview Sheriff’s vehicle number is 1966. This does not match the years of first appearance for Wanda, Vision, Jimmy or Monica. BUT… stay with us here for a minute…
If you look at these numbers closely, the “9” and “6” do not appear to be different numbers. And what is a “9”, but an inverted “6”, which means it’s discreet continuing the recurring “666” motif that keeps appearing in this show.
The Sheriff’s Deputies are from the town of Eastview. Mephisto is also known as Lucifer … as in Lucifer Morningstar, and The Satanic Bible says that as one of the princes of Hell, Lucifer’s domain is “the East.”
JIMMY WOO
Welcome back to the MCU, Jimmy Woo! Jimmy is one of the oldest characters in the entire MCU, believe it or not, predating the real world of Marvel Comics by many years, having first appeared in 1956. His MCU version made its mark. first and only appearance (so far) in Ant-Man and the Wasp.
- Agent Woo pulling out his card with magic close-up was a fantastic reminder for the running gag of Ant-Man and the Wasp.
CMBR
The “Wandavision” show hidden in the background radiation of cosmic microwaves seems to indicate just how serious Wanda’s powers are. CMBR is, as Jimmy says in the episode, the residual radiation of the first moments after the Big Bang. It is not a source of formative energy, but it is the waste of a source of formative energy. Hiding a signal could indicate that some fundamentals of reality are being changed.
