Kevin Holland steps in again on short notice to fight Marvin Vettori in the UFC on the headliner of ABC 2.
Holland (21-6 MMA, 7-3 UFC) will have the chance to redeem his loss in the main event against Derek Brunson in March when he steps in to replace injured Darren Till against Vettori (16-4-1 MMA, 6-2-1 CFU) in the middleweight main event in just eight days.
MMA Junkie has verified that the new fight has been signed with several people familiar with the situation, who spoke on condition of anonymity as the UFC has yet to make an official announcement.
UFC on ABC 2 takes place on April 10 at UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The main card airs on ABC after preliminaries on ESPN.
Vettori, 27, was supposed to fight Till in a battle of the best European middleweights, but Till was forced to retire less than two weeks after suffering a broken collarbone in training. That left Vettori, who leads a four-game winning streak and is No.8 in the latest USA TODAY Sports / MMA Junkie middleweight standings, with no opponent or many options.
Holland, 28, immediately offered his services, despite just losing a unanimous decision to Brunson in the UFC on the ESPN 21 main event on March 20. It will be a 21-day turnaround for the network’s TV headliner, and for No. 11 ranked Holland, an opportunity to quickly erase memories of a loss to Brunson that was accompanied. many critics, including UFC president Dana White speculating he had “mental breakdown”.
