TALLAHASSEE – Florida State defensive tackle Marvin wilson will miss the remainder of the season with a leg injury. Wilson was sidelined with injury in the FSU’s home game against Pittsburgh last weekend, and the problem will cost him the rest of the year.
Coach Mike Norvell confirmed Wilson would miss the rest of the season at a press conference on Wednesday. He will stay with the squad, Norvell said.
“Marvin did a little procedure. He’ll be back at full speed here very soon, “said Norvell.” I appreciate Marvin and the leader he’s worked for for a lot of these kids and all the aspects he does. He will always be there every day. He always encourages the guys in training. I thought his energy on the sideline on Saturday was very impressive. I hate for him that he can’t finish this season with us, but it’s something he had to do and we definitely support him in his rehab and what his future will be.
FSU has four games remaining on the 2020 schedule. Wilson, while falling short of his pre-season hype, was still a starter and a complex part of the FSU’s defensive line rotation.
The Texas native chose to return for his senior season, giving up a chance to be drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He was a team captain during the offseason and was named to US pre-season Walter Camp team after racking up 44 tackles, including 8.5 for loss with a max of 5.0 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovered, four breakouts in just nine games in 2019.
Wilson has 109 career tackles, 15.0 tackles for a loss and 9.5 sacks.
He is eligible to return to FSU for another season, or be transferred elsewhere for a final year of eligibility, although Wilson is currently expected to choose to turn pro.
Wilson was not on FSU’s depth card earlier this week and has been replaced by co-starters Dennis Briggs Jr. and Fabien Lovett.
