The Speaker of the House of Maryland removed a white lawmaker from a leading position for using a racial insult for blacks.
The Washington Post reported Monday that Lisanti reportedly used this insult to refer to Prince George County at a meeting after hours in a cigar bar in Annapolis. She reportedly told another white lawmaker that when he had campaigned in Prince George on behalf of a candidate, he was knocking on the door in a "district n —-". the bond, but was "sure everyone else used it."
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Michael Busch, announced Tuesday that he had dismissed the chair, a subcommittee, Mary Ann Lisanti. Lisanti, a Democrat, told reporters that she would issue a statement later in the day.
She apologized Tuesday morning before the Democratic Caucus of the House, after apologizing Monday to the leaders of the state's black legislative caucus. The speaker said that Lisanti also agreed to take awareness training.
