U.S. Capitol Police are investigating a report that Maryland Representative Andy Harris attempted to bring a gun into the House bedroom on Thursday. “USCP is investigating the matter,” officials confirmed to CBS Baltimore.

According to a HuffPost article, Harris, a Republican, set off metal detectors while trying to enter, then a security guard spotted the concealed weapon using a metal detector wand.

Members of the House are permitted to carry firearms on Capitol grounds, but not on House floors.

Officers refused to let Harris in, so he left and returned without the weapon, then was allowed to take to the ground, HuffPost said.

New security measures, including metal detectors, were put in place in the wake of the deadly riot on Capitol Hill on January 6.

CBS Baltimore reached out to Harris’ office for comment, but had not received a response Thursday evening.
