Upper Marlboro, Maryland – The president of the Young Democrats of Maryland was found dead in Washington, DC, more than a week after his disappearance in Maryland. Prince George County Police announced the death of Joseph Kitchen on Sunday evening, a day after the department asked the public for help in locating him.
Kitchen, 34, had been missing since August 8, when he was last seen at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis, Md., About 37 miles east of Washington.
“We are saddened to learn of the tragic and untimely death of Joseph Kitchen,” Young Democrats of America said in a Twitter message Sunday night. “Joseph always pushed YDA to respect his values and was someone who was not happy to accept the status quo. His passion will be sorely missed.”
The Young Democrats’ group, which is open to registered Democrats under the age of 36, had posted a missing persons flyer that sought information about Kitchen for his parents and brother.
The Maryland Democratic Party also expressed condolences on Twitter, saying Kitchens was “a kind heart who touched so many.”
The Washington Metropolitan Police Department is investigating his death.
