In the minutes leading up to this West London derby, the DJ of a deserted Craven Cottage did everything to create a spark.
His playlist, played at a deafening volume, made the foundations of this old pitch shake and, even after a football game started, it took 78 minutes for Chelsea to dampen some of the noise – around their form and the future of their manager.
Fulham full-back Antonee Robinson’s reckless red card shortly before the break unlocked the door, but Chelsea struggled to knock it down until Mason Mount’s low end.

Although the visitors worked hard for long stretches, the victory was no less than Mount’s performance deserved – the midfielder created seven chances.
More crucially, it was nothing less than Lampard’s sides. Four defeats in six matches had made it an essential victory.
Lampard therefore mixed his peloton in search of leaders: Olivier Giroud, Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger all entered, but Mount retained his place – and made the difference.
Although the midfielder is only 22 this month, his performances have earned him a place among Lampard’s trusted lieutenants.

For all its obvious quality, it was Mount’s first league goal since September. “I really aspire to score more,” said the midfielder. Lampard added: “ It’s a conversation I have a lot with Mason.
“I’m always on him about it because it was something big in my game. But my serious goal came when I was 25, 26 at Chelsea.
That’s right – Lampard was 25 in the 2003-04 season, when he scored a Premier League brace for the first of 10 consecutive seasons. It was a remarkable run from the midfielder that ended with him breaking Chelsea’s scoring record.
“ By the time he turns 23, 24 and hits the peak of his career, I would like to think Mason Mount will be a top player in every way, who has at least 10 goals – maybe 15 or more – In him. This is the potential that I believe (he has) and the great thing is that I know he knows it and he wants it. So it’s going to happen.
