Quarterback Mason Rudolph will start for the Steelers on Sunday, which means Browns defensive end Myles Garrett will line up in front of him throughout the fight.
Garrett was suspended last year for swinging Rudolph’s helmet to the quarterback at the end of Cleveland’s Week 11 win over Pittsburgh. Head coaches Kevin Stefanski and Mike Tomlin both said this week that the teams have left the incident, and now Rudolph has also.
“This game is too big to worry about everything that happened years ago, ”Rudolph said on Friday, via ESPN’s Brooke Pryor.
Rudolph explained that he was not concerned about the closure of the incident. Garrett accused Rudolph of using a racial insult as a catalyst to rock the helmet, which Rudolph vehemently denied.
“He did not contact me in any capacity, but I have a lot of respect for Myles, ”Rudolph said, via Kimberley A. Martin of ESPN.
Rudolph added that he was ready to hear Garrett if the defensive side wanted to speak, but was just concerned about how Garrett would affect the game.
“He’s a threat in the backfield. He is very disruptiveRudolph said. “We are obviously very aware of it and we treat it with respect.”
The Browns will clinch a playoff berth with a win over the Steelers on Sunday. Rudolph played seven shots in Pittsburgh’s Week 6 win over Cleveland, so it won’t be the first time he’s lined up behind center since the incident. But we’ll see if everyone can control their emotions in what will be one of the Browns’ biggest games since returning to the league in 1999.
