Mass Effect remasters already exist thanks to modders

It’s been seven years since the original Mass Effect trilogy ended, and even now modders are working on all kinds of additions and enhancements to Commander Shepard’s adventures. During the N7 Day celebrations on Saturday, BioWare announced the official Mass Effect remasters, but the modding community also took the opportunity to show off some of the unofficial upgrades they worked on last year.

They made a video to showcase everything – and there’s even a cameo from DudeShep himself, Mark Meer.

“With the upcoming trilogy remaster, it’s possible that the modding community, as is, is currently on the way out,” “Audemus,” who runs a modding of Mass Effect Discord, told us via email. . “I wanted to go out with a bang and make it really special.”

“While it’s likely that this remaster is incompatible with our mods, and probably not even editable with the toolset we’ve spent the past 8 years building, I’m delighted to see that Mass Effect is back. Our mods will still be around if BioWare’s improvements to the trilogy can’t quite surpass ours.

So if you are looking for some graphical improvements then look no further than lots of videos and lots of textures. These mods are for each of the three games, the first one recreating cutscenes at 4k and 60fps, and the second one improving (as you might have guessed) a lot of textures. Both also received new updates over the weekend.

For more character-related mods, the FemShep appearance consistency project changes Shepard’s default look in ME1 and ME2, so that she still looks like the cool redhead we see in ME3.

Sticking to the FemShep theme, Miranda and Jack romance mods are next. They allow Shepard to run through all of these characters’ romances, as the Vanilla Game locks them in GuyShep (which never made sense because Jack talks about being with women in his past, but THAT is one. other conversation).

Just girlfriends.

One of my favorite showcase mods is Project Variety. It brings a ton of changes to ME3, but the most notable for me is that it adds Turian women to the game’s background (the only two that actually exist in the original trilogy are both part of the DLC, so it’s nice to actually see in nature.)

Other honorable mentions include Advanced Enemy Factions, which allows enemies in ME2 to use more varied abilities; Shepard’s expanded armory, giving Shep new outfits for roaming Normandy; and the expanded Galaxy mod, which also gives teammates cool new outfits, and adds new weapons, armor, the ability to upgrade and customize the Normandy, and much more.

A bunch of other mods are included in the showcase, and you can find the links to each one in the video description.

The modders have done a great job of making some really brilliant changes to the Mass Effect trilogy. It makes me wonder if BioWare would go so far as to tweak things like romances – they made changes from Jaal’s to Andromeda – but from what we know so far, it’s mostly the visuals and performance that official remasters will improve.

But won’t they just fix Garrus’ armor? Somebody? Anybody? Help him.

In case you missed it: BioWare creates a whole new Mass Effect.
