LANE COUNTY, Ore. – The first invitation-only mass vaccination clinic kicked off in Lane County on Saturday.

The clinics are reserved for individuals in groups two and three of phase 1A.
The goal is to administer nearly 1,700 doses this weekend.
Several county agencies have donated extra doses to Lane County Public Health to use for clinics this weekend.
Health officials at the clinic told KEZI 9 News that you can expect a 50-60% reduction in risk after receiving the first vaccine.
They said the second dose is essential to achieve 95% effectiveness.
On Saturday, 600 doses of the Moderna vaccine were administered.
On Sunday, 975 doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be distributed.
Springfield resident Wendy Hoyman is a personal support worker and received her first dose on Saturday.
“I don’t want to die,” Hoyman said. “I don’t want to pass it on if I accidentally pick it up and my friends and family are sick. I think everyone should get the vaccine. We have to get this under control. “
There is a 15 to 30 minute waiting period after you have received the vaccine so that health officials can watch for any possible reactions.
Dan Harris, resident of Eugene, works in a high risk field and also received his first dose. He said he appreciated the opportunity to get the vaccine.
“It’s incredibly well organized, organized and very enjoyable,” said Harris.
Dr Patrick Luedtke, of Lane County Public Health, said the county plans to use every dose it has.
“After tomorrow’s event we will have nothing left,” said Luedtke. “We will find out on Monday what we will be restocked with for next week.”
Dr Luedtke said he was hopeful about the launch of the mass vaccination clinics, especially as vaccine companies are set to release phase 3 trials. This could mean that four vaccines will be on the market by the end of February.
Springfield resident Shirley Lightheart also weighed in.
“I think this is the start of the management of this pandemic,” Lightheart said. “I just hope people follow.”
Anyone who received their first dose will have to wait 28 days before receiving their second.
