BOSTON (AP) – State Treasurer Deb Goldberg said about one in ten Massachusetts citizens owed money but may not know it.

The Treasurer's Office has released its latest list of individuals and businesses with unclaimed property of $ 100 or more. This can take the form of forgotten bank accounts, insurance products, stocks or dividends and items left in safes.

By law, most abandoned accounts are returned to the public treasury after three years of inactivity.

According to Goldberg, the state currently holds more than $ 3.4 billion of unclaimed property. She says that more than $ 125 million was returned to their rightful owners last year.
