A large fire burns in an industrial park in Grand Prairie, west of Dallas. Firefighters are concerned about burning chemicals, a nearby lumberyard catching fire, and falling power lines.
The fire at the Poly-America facility near the President George Bush toll highway just north of Pioneer Parkway began to burn around 1 a.m. Wednesday.
Flames and smoke could be seen from miles away, and explosions could be heard in the distance.
The massive fire broke out early Wednesday morning.

The plume of smoke was so large that the National Weather Service captured it on the radar.
“It’s not something you see every day. And I was relatively close to it when it happened, so it’s kind of like everything is brewing for me now. It used to be like, oh my God, what’s going on. Now that I’m back here and out of the way, I don’t have to be so hyper-wary of my surroundings anymore, ”said Jennifer Borell, who saw the fire early on.
According to its website, Poly-America manufactures plastic films and trash bags. The company also recycles plastic.
The Grand Prairie Fire Department said the blaze was caused by high-voltage power lines falling in plastic inventory.
Several cars near the facility that are believed to contain flammable materials have already caught fire. The fire also threatens a nearby lumber yard and electric towers.
Explosions from the fire could be heard in the distance.

Firefighters are now working defensively, using a truck with spray foam to try to stop the blaze from spreading.
They expect the fire to burn most of the day.
