Mat George, known for the popular “She Rates Dogs” podcast, has passed away. He was 26 years old.
On Saturday morning, CBS Los Angeles reported that a 26-year-old pedestrian was killed when a white BMW headed east on Beverly Blvd. in Beverly Hills hit it. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the victim was not in a marked crosswalk and the vehicle continued east without stopping. Paramedics declared the pedestrian dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office then updated the victim as George.
George’s friend and podcast co-host Michaela Okland took to Twitter on Saturday to confirm the sad news.
“I would rather you guys here have this from me than a newspaper article.” Mat was killed in a hit and run last night, ”Okland wrote. “I don’t really have any other words at the moment. I wish I could contact anyone who knows him personally, but the news has already been released and I just can’t do it at this time.

Okland’s emotional post elicited immediate shock and condolences from fans, with one commentator saying, “Oh my God, I’m so sorry that Mat was such a wonderful person and will be sadly missed.” Another wrote that under different circumstances this would have been the type of joke the couple would have made together, expressing that they half expected to see George joking in the responses.
Named after Okland’s popular social media page, the “She Rates Dogs” podcast focuses on “The Journey and Misadventures of Men in Love” in addition to trending topics and general life advice.
Local police are asking for help in identifying the driver of the white BMW involved in the incident.
