Warner Bros. came up with a huge reveal on Tuesday when it presented CinemaCon: the trailer for its co-production Village Roadshow Matrix 4. And Warners also gave us the official title: The Matrix: Resurrections.
The trailer begins with Neil Patrick Harris talking to Neo about Keanu Reeves. A near future for San Francisco. It looks like Neo is trapped in a monotonous world, much like his first self in the 1999 movie. He just doesn’t understand his surroundings.
“Am I crazy?” asks Reeves’ Neo. “We don’t use that word here,” says Harris’s therapist.
Reeves comes into contact with Carrie Anne Moss’s Trinity at a cafe: “Have we met? she asks Neo.
A shot of blue pills spilling into a sink, as the Jefferson Airplane song “White Rabbit” plays.
Then a shot of Neo twisting into an old man in the mirror. A young Morpheus tells Neo “it’s time to fly”, handing him a red pill.
Then a lot of jumps, a lot of twists in the air, karate and all the acrobats you expect from a Matrix movie.
The photo, shot by Lana Wachowski, is still slated for release on December 22.
It’s not yet clear when the trailer will hit social media – it was only for the CinemaCon crowd.
Ahead of the trailer’s launch, Reeves and Moss appeared in a making music video exclaiming how much the first film impacted their lives. Said Reeves: “The first Matrix felt like something beyond yourself… You will hear the phrase ‘The matrix changed my life. ‘ I say, ‘Thank you, it changed mine too.’
Moss exclaimed about his shoot ’em streak for the 1999 title, “I never thought’ Dodging It ‘was going to be a big deal.
