Matt Amodio lands the second longest “Jeopardy!” winning streak

“Danger!” has a new rising star.

Yale doctoral student Matt Amodio, 30, is now the second-most successful candidate in the quiz, notching his 33rd consecutive victory on Friday and eclipsing James Holzhauer’s streak.

Amodio raised $ 55,400, bringing his winnings to $ 1,267,801. However, he was still behind Holzhauer’s total winnings by over $ 1 million, due to his generally more conservative play in the “Double Jeopardy” and “Final Jeopardy” rounds.

“I have the chance to remind everyone how much better @James_Holzhauer is than me in every way”, Amodio tweeted before the pre-recorded contest broadcast.

“It would be an honor to be compared unfavorably to someone I admire so much!

The genius of trivia is set to win another 42 games to beat Ken Jennings’ 74-game blitz in 2004.

Jennings was scheduled to host the show in tandem with actress Mayim Bialik after Mike Richards was forced to leave the concert and his role as executive producer, following the revelation of sexist comments he had previously made on a podcast .

“Danger!” had invited a large number of prominent guests to moderate the program following the death of iconic host Alex Trebek.
