As if starring Chris Hemsworth and Christian Bale wasn’t enough, Thor: love and thunder received an extra dose of star power. Matt Damon has joined the cast of the upcoming blockbuster, after landing in Sydney, Australia, where he will be quarantined for two weeks before filming begins.

Co-stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista and Tessa Thompson are also in quarantine in Australia, while Natalie Portman has been in the country since September. Hemsworth, who plays the eponymous hero, lives in Byron Bay, a seaside town north of Sydney.

“I am so excited that my family and I will be able to call Australia home over the next few months,” Damon said in a local press release. “The Australian film crews are known worldwide for their professionalism and it is a joy to work with who make the 14 day quarantine so worth it.”

Damon had a role in Thor: Ragnarok, the predecessor of Love and Thunder, playing an actor who plays Loki in an Asgardian play. Love and Thunder, like Ragnarok, will be directed by Taika Waitit. It was shot in Australia thanks in part to a federal grant of A $ 24 million, or roughly $ 18 million.

Love and Thunder is part of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is slated for release on May 6, 2022. There is lots of phase 4 by then though, as Love and Thunder follows Black Widow (May 7, 2021), Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (July 9, 2021), Eternals (November 5, 2021), an untitled Spider-Man sequel (December 17, 2021). ) and Doctor Strong in the Multiverse of Madness (March 25, 2022).
