Matt Maiocco says 49ers’ Lance is best rookie QB he’s ever seen

Some of you seem to think we’re filling up on Trey Lance a little too early. To quote Samuel L. Jackson from Pulp Fiction, allow us to reply:

As I said on today’s Stats & Eggs podcast, Matt Maiocco has been in the 49ers for 26 years. He’s not prone to exaggeration and he knows exactly how much weight his opinion carries in the Bay Area. If that’s not enough, we have more.

Offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel was asked about Lance yesterday and said the following:

“There is an element of trust that is unique. I wouldn’t call it loud or loud. He has a calm, confident booty which I think players really like. He knows the pressure on him, like any other player. So he’s really very comfortable in his skin I would say. And he gets to the point where he can correct other players, which from a coach’s perspective is all you’re looking for. You want a coach on the pitch. The person a catcher will listen to, much more than a coach, is the one who throws the ball to him. So he’s been really good with it and I think a lot of guys react to that.

If Lance gets to the point where he can correct other players after just a few months with the team, the 49ers are in a very, very good position for the 2021 season.
