Evaluators who work in the media do not feel the same pressure as general managers, directors and scouts who work for a team. But make no mistake: we feel the pressure to do things right
During my eight years of covering the NFL draft for Bleacher Report, I've had many debates about which player was the best. Jared Goff or Carson Wentz? I chose Goff. Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III? I chose luck. The terrible debate of 2013 on Eric Fisher or Luke Joeckel – in which I chose wrong and took Joeckel.
Why the history lesson? Because I turn around for the best player in the NFL 2019 draft class.
Welcome to No. 1, Quinnen Williams.
A change so late in the process deserves an explanation. It's not as simple as a handful of general managers tell me I'm wrong – in fact, many of those I spoke to said the opposite of my initial choice – but rather to go in the direction of evaluation. What makes Williams the best prospect? It boiled down to two factors:
1. Nick Bosa has been injured twice in four years.
During the third week, Bosa suffered a heart injury that destroyed Bosa for the remainder of the 2018 academic football season. And although many people will insinuate that he could have returned to the Buckeyes 's had participated in the college football playoffs, it' s still a late – season setback that needs to be evaluated. In high school, Bosa also had knee injuries and underwent surgery to repair a partially torn ACL.

Injured players have the means to stay injured. It's the same reason, D.K. Metcalf and Marquise Brown take shots on my big board. Two serious wounds in four seasons are enough to knock Bosa down just enough to let Williams overtake him.
2. Quinnen Williams has not yet reached his potential.
Williams is a freshman as a first-class student. He played well enough to deserve serious consideration for the Heisman Trophy in 2018. His eight sacks and 19 tackles for a loss showed his dominance. At age 21, on December 21st, Williams continues to grow and develop as a player.
It's easy to watch Bosa and see an adult man who has already reached his physical peak, thanks to years of training with his brother Joey (choice number 3, draft 2016) and his father, John (choice number 16, Project of 1987). Bosa has touched the genetic lottery and comes from a long line of football players. We have a good idea of who Nick can be thanks to Joey, who was also injured.
With Williams, there is no known ceiling. It has athleticism, work ethic and strength to continue to improve. You hear the term "exhausted" in Scouting. Bosa is at maximum. Williams is just beginning.
• Ole Miss wide receiver D.K. Metcalf is one of the most recognizable names in the 2019 category after his shirtless picture became viral and his 4.33 seconds behind 40 yards appealed to fans, but will we hear his name on the first day of the session from 25 to 27 April?
Many scouts are torn to where Metcalf will go. Many think that he is a second-round player, but note that general managers can be excited about traits and reach athleticism or rare speed.

Metcalf should be a second-round player, but no one I've talked to will be able to ignore the rumors that Buffalo Bills or Green Bay Packers could put him in the top 15.
After the plot at General Number 1, the landing position of Metcalf is one of the most interesting questions regarding this class.
• Where is the cornerbacks to be written? Several decision-makers and scouts believe that the race could begin in the 1920s.
