The bears believed in Mitchell Trubisky. They believed in him so much that they traded overall picks No.3, 67 and 111 in 2017 as well as a third round of 2018 for the 49ers to move up a place to draft him.
Trubisky has lasted four seasons and 50 starts, and now the Bears are back where they were for many years – still looking for a franchise quarterback. Trubisky is in Buffalo, having signed a one-year contract to support Josh Allen.
Bears coach Matt Nagy publicly closed the book on Trubisky’s Chicago career on Friday wishing him luck.
“I’m indebted to Mitch and what he did for so many different reasons,” Nagy said, via Chris Emma of 670 The Score. “It’s hard to go through these processes. I care about him so much. It didn’t work here.
“For various reasons, it didn’t work. But I certainly appreciate the way he handled everything.
The Bears have also made it clear that they view Dalton as an improvement over Trubisky.
Dalton, 33, played for the Cowboys last season after nine seasons at Cincinnati. He started 142 regular season games and four in the playoffs.
“This is one of the areas of our team where we feel we are improving,” Pace said of the decision to replace Trubisky with Dalton.
The Bears finished 29th overall in 2019 and 22nd last season.
