The Lions released quarterback Josh Johnson and hired Jeff Driskel on Tuesday. Detroit has three quarters on his active lineup in Matthew Stafford, David Blough and now Driskel.

As for Johnson, he beat Tom Savage and Luis Perez for the substitute shift position before the season. He won the place after signing after Savage's brain injury in the first pre-season game. The quartermate quickly adapted to the Detroit offense and was his second in the first two weeks.
Patricia said that he had "all the respect in the world" for Johnson and that his team took the opportunity to bring somebody to whom they had taken a look.
Driskel worked for the team last week after being sidelined by Cincinnati with an injury designation. The former Florida quarterback started five games with the Bengals last season after injury to quarterback Andy Dalton.

"Once we get to know the player a little better and he knows us a little better, we leave a little bit from there," Patricia said. "It's part of the process in season. Driskel completed 105 of his 176 passes for a total of 1,003 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions last season. The San Francisco 49ers made the quarterback a sixth-round pick in 2016.
His tenure in Cincinnati ended after a difficult qualifying season. Driskel only completed 48.1% of his passes with 136 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. He was injured on the hamstring during the pre-season and missed a bit of time before being released. In college, Driskel completed 607 of the 1,000 assists for a 7,437-yard rush with 50 touchdowns and 28 interceptions in four seasons in Florida and one at Louisiana Tech.
