Mattel launches non-sexist dolls, saying kids "do not want their toys dictated by gender norms"

Toy maker Mattel has announced a new line of non-sexist dolls, claiming that his research shows that children "do not want their toys to be dictated by gender norms".

Children can customize new dolls with long or short hair, pants or skirt, or both. The dolls are available in six different skin tones, and the suggested retail price is $ 30.

"Toys are a reflection of culture and as the world continues to celebrate the positive impact of inclusivity, we felt that it was time to create a line of dolls without labels", said Kim Culmone, executive vice president of Mattel Fashion Doll Design, statement. "Through research, we have learned that children do not want their toys to be dictated by gender norms."

"This line allows all children to express themselves freely, which is why it resonates so strongly with them," continued Culmone. "We hope Creatable World will encourage people to think more broadly about how all children can benefit from the doll game."

Mattel says he consulted with experts, parents, doctors and children during the making of the new doll.
