RALEIGH, NC – Stelio Mattheos, future hopeful of the Carolina Hurricanes, will miss his training camp to fight testicular cancer.

Chief Executive Don Waddell said Monday that the 20-year-old striker should regain his health and resume training for the upcoming season once he has finished his treatment and that he will be authorized by his doctors.

Mattheos was diagnosed in June, two days after helping a Carolina affiliate in Charlotte win a championship. He underwent surgery to remove a testicle and has undergone several cycles of chemotherapy in the past two months.

Carolina recruited Mattheos in the third round in 2017 and joined Charlotte late in the regular season before playing 14 playoff games.
