Matthew McConaughey said on Wednesday he was considering running for governor of Texas.

The star of the “Dallas Buyers Club” acknowledged the possibility of running for office while being interviewed on the podcast “The Balanced Voice”.

McConaughey, 51, was talking about his current roles as a parent and professor at the University of Texas when he wondered aloud what his next move in life would be.

“And I’m looking now, what’s my leadership role?” McConaughey asks. “Because I think I have things to teach and to share.

“What is my role, what is my category in my next chapter of life that I am going to now?” he keeps on.

Host Rania Mankarious jumped at the chance to question whether a gubernatorial race would be considered her next step.

“It’s a real consideration,” said the Oscar winner.

Last November, McConaughey did not rule out a candidacy for political office when asked about the possibility in a radio interview.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, is due for re-election in 2022.
