It looks like Matthew McConaughey is seriously considering running for the next Governor of Texas.
The actor said the same while speaking with Crime Stoppers of Houston. The balanced voice podcast this week the Houston Chronicle reported. Asked by CEO and Crime Stoppers host Rania Mankarious about a political race, McConaughey responded by saying he was considering the idea.
“It’s a real consideration,” said the 51-year-old, born in Uvalde, Texas.
McConaughey, while promoting his book Greenlights on the Last show, told host Stephen Colbert he had “no plans” to run for Texas governor in November 2020.
“I don’t intend to do it at the moment,” he said at the time. “Like I said, it would be a lot of other people.”
McConaughey continued, “Look, right now, no, I don’t understand politics… Politics seems like a broken business. Politics must redefine its purpose. As I move forward in life, yes, will I consider leadership roles where I can be most useful? I would love. I do that, whatever. This is where I am sitting right now.
The next election for governor of Texas, currently held by Greg Abbott, will take place in November 2022.
