Life as a veteran free agent receiver is not always enjoyable in New England. Many have gone through Foxborough over the years, some with impressive resumes, but past successes have not always translated into an instant relationship with Tom Brady.
Maurice Harris hopes to resist this trend. Harris would in no way represent the high-end arrivals of free agents. He is not a Super Bowl star like Torry Holt or Reggie Wayne, nor an outgoing diva star like Chad Johnson. But on the basis of very preliminary comments, Harris could be ready to contribute in his first year in New England.
The media attended three practices, including the last two days as part of the minicamp. Harris, a sturdy 6-3, 200-pounder, has been outstanding all over the world. "It's good to get the experience and the rehearsals," Harris said after Wednesday's practice session. Although the job is to work in shorts and t-shirts that are not at a high level of competition, Harris has done well to take advantage of these opportunities. He worked indoors and outdoors and made several powerful catches, most of the time at the center where he showed strong hands while managing a lot of traffic.
Harris attributed to Edelman and Dorsett, Patriot's only two passers-by with significant experience in the Patriots system, assisting him in his transition process, on and off the field.
