Max Holloway and Calvin Kattar face off tonight (Saturday, January 16, 2021) in a Main Event featherweight “Fight Island” clash in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates at UFC Fight Island 7. Two of the top forwards in 145 lbs., The two are looking to take the title one step closer. For Max Holloway, his only chance to win back the crown is to win a whole bunch of fights in a row, or at least stay in the winning column until Alexander Volkanovsky spits out the title.
Alternatively, Kattar is riding a solid wave of momentum in this game. If he manages to fire the former champion, there’s a good chance Kattar will leave the Octagon with a secure title shot.

First round
Kattar lands the first shot of the night, a solid low kick. Kattar sticks a jab, another low kick. Good left hook from Holloway. Holloway pulls a combination, cuts the lead calf. Holloway lands a few kicks lower and sticks a jab. Kattar steps back cleanly. Holloway’s pressure hits Kattar, and he hits the body. Kattar scores with a few clear rights, but Holloway immediately puts him back on the defensive with a multi-punch combo. Rigid right hand crashes into Holloway’s jaw – the Hawaiian is on fire! Holloway’s heavy back kick, followed by another clean right hand.
Second round
Holloway’s forehands are absolutely crisp and they land quickly within a second. Kattar scored with a left hook. Holloway tore the body apart several times in a row. Clean up 1-2 scores for Kattar. Kattar isn’t doing very well when he throws, but Holloway simply drowns him with feints and volume. Another good left hook scores for Kattar, although Holloway responded immediately. Holloway rushed forward, tangling his knees in his attack. Holloway’s pressure was just unrelenting and he stabbed Kattar with his right hand! Holloway unleashed a major flurry, trying to force the finish, but Kattar wasn’t going to fold unless he was put down permanently. Holloway landed several cracked elbows, but Kattar survived them. Holloway lands a high kick in the dying seconds, almost finishing Kattar on the bell again. WOW!
Third round
Holloway remains on the offensive until third, attacking with an early spinning elbow. Kattar finds a few hits. Kattar is now on the lookout for potential exit opportunities, but Holloway defends them. Kattar scores with an elbow and a hard uppercut. Kattar’s big right hand supports Holloway! These two bang! 1-1-2 lands hard for Holloway. A hard kick from the Hawaiian then lands a heavy left. Nasty 1-2 scores for Kattar. Holloway string together combinations with effortless grace. Despite a ridiculous number of strikes, Holloway isn’t breathing heavily. Kattar finds a good elbow, but his success is too rare to build momentum. Every time Kattar approaches the fence, Holloway downpours and elbows.
Fourth round
Holloway waits roughly zero seconds before firing combinations of forehands and hards. Kattar is frozen by the variety and volume of his enemy. Good left hook from Kattar. Holloway hiding its rips very well in the midsection. A blow to the left body hurts Kattar, and he is covered along the fence. Holloway bursts at his opponent, but Kattar shoots just enough to survive … for a while. For a good minute, Holloway braved his enemy’s wild swings to continue digging into his enemy. Holloway lands a trio of hard elbows, but Kattar simply refuses to fall. Good overhand from Kattar. A second. Kattar always throws heat! Holloway brilliantly hides a head kick behind a punch, but Kattar manages to block it. “The Boston Finisher” somehow survives around!
Fifth round
Holloway’s strategy and volume stayed the same in the fifth. Crisp shots continued to connect for the Hawaiian, again briefly stunning Kattar. Kattar finds a 1-2-3. Another hard back kick arrives for Holloway. Holloway refuses to stop tearing the body apart. Holloway combs Kattar’s hair, dropping his hands and calling himself the best in the world. After this performance, can someone chat?
Result: Max Holloway defeated Calvin Kattar via unanimous decision (50-43, 50-43, 50-42)
