Tigers quarterback Max Johnson led LSU to a 28-25 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday. In doing so, he recorded impressive numbers and extended a leading streak in the Football Bowl division.

Johnson’s four touchdown passes have given him six straight games with three or more touchdown passes. Last week, Johnson became the first LSU quarterback to throw at least three touchdowns in each of his first five starts. This trend continued in the victory over the Bulldogs on Saturday.

Johnson was 17 for 27 for 280 yards and four touchdowns at Starkville. He threw an interception.

Johnson is the first Tigers quarterback to score multiple over 55-yard touchdowns in a game since 2016, when Danny Etling did so, according to the ESPN broadcast of Saturday’s game.

Johnson also became the first quarterback since Rohan Davey to land three touchdowns over 40 yards in one game, according to Sports Illustrated’s Glen West.

Johnson praised the defense in their post-game comments and gave the unit a lot of credit for the victory. LSU’s defense kept Mississippi State three points in the first half as Johnson and offense came to life in the second half. He also credited offensive coordinator Jake Peetz for composing good plays throughout.

Johnson, on the season, threw for 1,144 yards and 15 touchdowns, including six over 40 yards.
