NEW YORK – After announcing its intention, Mazda finally puts a diesel CX-5 on sale in the United States.
The small SUV debuting at the New York International Auto Show is powered by a new 2.2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine called Mazact, Skyactiv-D.
Mazda has been working hard to create an engine capable of meeting its performance targets and the stringent US market standards for diesel emissions. To do this, it was necessary to add a nitrogen oxide scrubber and an exhaust fluid treatment system, which he had initially tried to circumvent with other technical methods. All diesels currently on sale use a similar configuration, including the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain, which are Mazda's only direct competitors.

The result is a 168 hp engine and a 290 lb-ft of torque that is good for 28 mpg combined in the CX-5 Signature AWD, which is the only model in which it will be available at launch. By comparison, the gasoline version is equipped with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder developing 187 hp and a throughput of 186 lb-ft, whose combined EPA power is 27 mpg . The towing index, which is a typical diesel force, has not yet been revealed.
Prices start at $ 42,045 and the order book is open now.
