With Republicans adding House seats in the 2020 election, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of R-California told “Sunday Morning Futures” that only 10 Democrats would be needed. to prevent Nancy Pelosi from being re-elected as Speaker of the House.
McCarthy made the comments after his party changed at least seven seats from blue to red and an eighth seat in Michigan, which was most recently occupied by a libertarian.
Pelosi announced his candidacy for re-election as president, but McCarthy said it wasn’t a sure thing with the Democratic majority thinner.
“To become president, you must have 218 votes,” he explained. “When she voted two years ago, 15 Democrats voted against her. Ten of those Democrats will return to Congress. If those 10 vote against her again, she won’t be Speaker of the House … because of the Republicans’ gains.
“We are close enough now that we can control the prosecution with a few Democrats joining us,” he said.

Pelosi defended the 2020 results, saying Democrats “lost battles, but we won the war.”
McCarthy said America is rejecting socialism by voting among Republicans across the country and specifically electing GOP women in states like California, Florida and New York – setting a record number of women elected.

“We won by the victory of Republican women,” he said. “It says something about what President Trump has been able to do – expand this party, bring diversity, and it brings strength. The same thing that brings strength to America, diversity, is now also found in the Republican Party. “
