Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Monday backed the legal challenge to the Trump campaign’s voting results in several battlefield states in his first public comments since election day.
In his remarks, McConnell, R-Ky., Said, “No state has yet certified the results of its elections” and that recounts are expected to already take place in “at least one or two states”. The longtime senator argued that President Trump was “100% within his rights to examine allegations of wrongdoing and to weigh his legal options.”

The Trump campaign has sparked legal challenges and alleged voting irregularities or outright fraud in several states, but it has yet to produce significant evidence to substantiate these claims. McConnell called for investigating any claims that surface.
“If major irregularities were to occur this time of a magnitude that would affect the outcome, then every American should want them exposed,” McConnell said. “If Democrats are confident they didn’t happen, they should have no reason to fear further scrutiny. McConnell referred to the 2020 presidential election, when a recount took place in Florida due to the narrow voting margin between George W. Bush and Al Gore. He noted that Gore’s campaign had mounted a lengthy legal challenge and that Gore had only conceded the race in December of this year.
