Right now, some McDonald’s are celebrating Pokémon’s 25th anniversary with a promotion that turns the iconic Happy Meal box into the face of Pikachu. 50 collectible cards, including rarer holographic cards, come with this cherub container. And some people are buying Happy Meals en masse to get their hands on them.
Pokémon Cards are such a popular product that some fans say they find it difficult to purchase boosters from major retailers. Almost every week there’s a new record broken for the dollars people spend on old-fashioned packs – and new scams to go along with that hustle and bustle.
The McDonald’s promotion, in other words, never had a chance. People are to wake up early implant what McDonald’s sells are the new Happy Meals. Some apparently buy the Happy Meals in large numbers in the hope of getting all the collectibles, and just throw away food. Some McDonald’s are even by imposing restrictions on the purchase of Happy Meals, although the scalpers are already turning and sell individual cards for a premium. Some customers go to several restaurants, unable to find a single Happy Meal. On websites like eBay, entire boxes of cards or sealed packs cost hundreds of dollars. It is not known if the boxes are bought behind the scenes or if they are swept by employees.

@McDonalds stop letting people buy the happy pokemon meal in bulk. No one has more than 5 children. Let the general public have their chance.

I’ve been to (and my friends) about a dozen @McDonalds trying to get just ONE Pokemon card deck and each place said someone had already shown up and bought their whole lot. By looking on eBay, people are literally selling for profit. Can we not allow this?

Granted, you don’t have to be a kid to enjoy a toy, and Pokémon nostalgia is squarely the domain of adults. Moreover, not everyone is a scalper or an accumulator! Some people try to do good even by buying multiple packs.
I decided to go to McDonald’s to pick up some of the new Pokémon card packs! Since you cannot buy the packs separately, I bought 10 happy meals and will distribute the food to the homeless in the area

Some mass buyers even know a good dose of karma. But it’s crazy to see the fervor around cards soaring so high that real kids probably won’t be able to get a product partially made for them either. McDonald’s did not immediately provide Polygon with a comment.
