According to a Wall Street Journal report, McDonald’s franchises are offering higher hourly wages, paid vacation and tuition in an attempt to win over workers, while fast food chains and restaurants struggle to hire workers. staff.
Storefront owners in the food chain also offer babysitting services, according to the report. The benefit has become popular among businesses during the pandemic as employers and Americans emerging from the pandemic seek to adjust.
Restaurants have been among the businesses hardest hit during Covid shutdowns, laying off many of their workers as sales stagnate. Now that industries across the country have resumed operations, restaurants are struggling to keep up with demand.
Other big restaurant chains – including Papa John’s, Chipotle and PF Chang’s – have also stepped up incentives for new workers, including sign-up bonuses and expanded access to benefits.
McDonald’s franchisees agreed last month to help boost training, workplace flexibility, wages and benefits for workers in all markets, according to the Journal.
In May, McDonald’s announced a pay hike of around 10% for some of its employees as it rushed to hire workers and keep up with demand. The company expects its average hourly wage to be $ 15 by 2024.
