Alonso aims to win the Indy 500 and win the title of the Triple Crown in car racing. But his plan to pass this feat this year failed Sunday night when he failed to get one of the last three places in the starting lineup.

While McLaren Athletic Director Gil de Ferran has openly apologized to Alonso for not giving him a car fast enough to qualify, Brown is clear that the outfit can only blame himself for what has happened.
In an article published on social media, Brown wrote: "Incredibly disappointed for the fans, our team, our partners and Fernando, not to participate in the Indy500 race this year.
"It will always be a difficult road, but no excuses – we have not done the job.Thank and respect those who have done it.
"I'm sorry we could not put McLaren and Fernando in the race, the team put their heart into it and I thank them, we know where we went wrong and we will fix it. ".
De Ferran said Sunday night to the media that Alonso's inability to qualify was the most painful experience of his career, but he is adamant that the team will regroup and come back for another effort in 2020.
Clearly overwhelmed by the disappointment, de Ferran then spoke on Twitter and said: "We have taken on a daunting challenge.
"We knew it was going to be difficult all along the course and we faced some very experienced IndyCar teams and unfortunately we were a bit short, let's try, we managed to get a little short and it's very painful.
He added, "The pilot in me, the fighter in me, wants to come back, I want to start tomorrow and I want to take up this challenge head on in. Fernando spoke well earlier, at least we are here fighting. you are failing but we are here fighting, it is a challenge I want to meet and I want to come back. "
