An act introduced in the Senate would force the federal government to buy American flags made in the United States.

The measure sponsored by Sense. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, demand that flags purchased by the government be made with US-made materials and made entirely in the United States.

"The American flag is a symbol of our identity, our resolve and our values ​​as a people. To honor its importance, the federal government should only use flags made entirely in the United States, "said Collins. "This bipartisan legislation will ensure the preservation of our country's symbol while supporting US jobs and manufacturers."

Under current law, the government is required to buy flags consisting of at least 50% of materials made in the United States.

The "American Flag Law" passed by the couple was passed by the Senate in 2011 and 2014, but stagnated in the House.
