They are presented as heroes for having stealthily left their states.
If there has ever been a story – okay, a non-Trump story – that has dramatized the way the political press takes sides, it’s the spectacle of Democratic Texas lawmakers blocking action by pushing it out. Lone Star State.
Now you can think of these Democrats as yellow bellied cowards, or you can think of them taking a principled stance to prevent the GOP from passing what they see as a devastating set of voting restrictions. It is a legitimate subject of debate.
But the Republicans have the votes to pass the measure, so the Democrats deny them a quorum, for now, by refusing to run.
In other words, they are foiling the democratic process while telling the world that they are trying to save democracy.

Would they not be described as obstructionists? Wouldn’t their tactics be described as desperate? Would their approach not be considered a criminal act?
Instead, the Washington Post ran the headline yesterday: “Inside the Secret Plan for the Democratic Exodus from Texas: A Phone Tree, Baggage Rush, and Politically Perilous Journey.”
I mean, the newspaper gave the impression that commandos were on a secret CIA mission.
Here’s the common thread: “They activated the plan with a phone tree late Sunday: Pack your bags – and make sure they don’t weigh more than 45 pounds. Be prepared to leave Austin tomorrow at noon. We will then tell you where we are to go. “
Their goal: “Blocking what they described as a total attack on democracy meant making it harder for people who tend to vote Democrats to vote.” It was just a matter of when.

Again, I don’t think renegade Republicans would be praised for bringing Hollywood entertainment to a “colorful” state. The coverage would be more along the lines of removing people of color.

Will the Democrats, who met Kamala Harris yesterday, really stay in Washington until the special session expires on August 7? The coverage here too is favorable to the Democratic side, except for Biden’s failure to agree to the lifting of the filibuster to pass the For the People Bill with 50 votes in the Senate. That would mean Democrats would change the rules to get their way, which is good, from that point of view, because filibuster is undemocratic (except when they are in the minority and use it vigorously).
