Members of the media pushed a report that border patrol agents were using “whips” on Haitian migrants who have gathered at the southern border of the United States in recent days.
An El Paso Times report went viral for her dramatic depiction of what was happening in Del Rio, Texas, where thousands of Haitians invaded the area.

Devereaux’s tweet was also shared by MSNBC host Chris Hayes, Business Insider reporter Eliza Relman and The Week correspondent Ryan Cooper.
Democratic Agent Sawyer Hackett shared footage of Border Patrol officers on horseback, tweeting, “The Border Patrol mounted horses to round up Haitian refugees with whips. It is unfathomable cruelty to those fleeing the disaster and political ruin. The administration must stop this. “
This tweet went viral, catching the attention of MSNBC host Joy Reid.

Several Democratic lawmakers have also amplified the narrative.

A border patrol agent slammed the viral tweet, telling Fox News: “We don’t carry a whip and the only thing I see in their hands are reins.”
The officer added, “BP does a great job in the use of force training. There is no chance that a horse patrol unit will whip aliens. Whips are not issued or authorized for use.
