MediaTek MT6893 could be tied with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865

MediaTek still holds a significant share of the consumer smartphone segment, mainly due to its more affordable price for its processors at this level. It recently took its guns higher, targeting mid-range and high-end devices with its line of 5G-enabled Dimensity chips, but it hasn’t exactly hit performance figures that can be considered comparable to the main competitor in this space. That could slowly change if those leaked benchmarks for an upcoming MediaTek flagship are correct, showing that it could finally catch up with Qualcomm.

MediaTek has flooded the smartphone market chip after chip in its Dimensity product line and is starting to target high-end Chromebooks as well. What it hasn’t been able to do so far, however, is brag about a processor that comes close to Qualcomm’s premium Snapdragon lineup. He may be getting there, although he may be a generation behind.

Geekbench scores for an unexpected 6nm MediaTek MT6893 bring these favorable numbers to light. He scored 886 on the single-core test in the suite and 2948 on the multi-core. It definitely beats the company’s Dimensity 1000+, with 765 and 2874, respectively, running inside a Redmi K30 Ultra. More interesting, however, is the comparison with a OnePlus 8 and its Snapdragon 865 which got an 886 and a 3104 close.

Of course, the Snapdragon 865 is about to get “old” when Qualcomm announces the Snapdragon 875, possibly in December. It is always a great achievement for MediaTek that it has moved closer to a flagship chip from Qualcomm. If he manages to keep his pace, he could finally catch up with his rival in a year or two.

The MediaTek MT6893 is disclosed to have a three-cluster octa-core configuration, with one Cortex-A78 core operating at 3.0 GHz max, three Cortex-A78 cores capped at 2.6 GHz, and four low-power Cortex-A55 cores. of energy. The chip will support LPDDR5 and UFS 3.0, the most up-to-date memory standards available on mobile, but other details about the chip remain unknown.
