Meet the Moby X, an all-electric tribute to the Porsche 935 Moby Dick – Robb Report

Among racing fans, few Porsches are more respected than the 935 Moby Dick, a heavily modified and track-ready 911 that owes its literary nickname to its long tail design. But as revered as the car is, Bisimoto saw room for improvement.

The California-based aftermarket store just announced the Moby X, an upcoming futuristic homage to the legendary pilot. And the new design isn’t the only area where the pilot will differ from his inspiration; it will also be powered by an all-electric powertrain.

The original Moby Dick was a 935 from the 1978 model year – the factory racing version of the 911 – which was a staple in endurance races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the late 1970s and into the 80s. Thanks to a Martinelli racing livery and an ultra-aerodynamic bodywork that included the rear “whale tail”, the car made a strong impression on racing enthusiasts and is now considered one of the most popular drivers. most iconic in Porsche history. So it’s no surprise that Bisimoto founder Bisi Ezerioha wants to pay tribute to the car.

More surprising are the freedoms that Ezerioha and his collaborators, a group that includes designer Errolson Hugh and digital artist Khyzyl Saleem, have taken with the Moby X, which is still in development, although it is very clearly based on the Moby. Dick, it’s not a perfect recreation. Both vehicles share the same general shape, but the Homage lacks the original’s huge rear wing, is fitted with LED lighting, and swapped the Martinelli color scheme for a more sinister black, gray and white livery. .

The most drastic deviation, however, is not visible at a glance. The Moby X will be powered by a fully electric motor that draws its juice from a 32 kWh battery, according to Designboom. Although details are not available at the moment, the car could produce 635 horsepower, which should make it as powerful as the original Moby Dick.

Bisimoto Engineering has yet to announce when the car will be finished, except to say that it should be sometime in the year. Expect an official launch date, with more technical information, in the near future.
